Real cost vs notional list price
The most important honesty question in usage tracking: is this number real, or is it list price?
Real cost
For Claude Code, JP computes cost from the actual per-token counts in your local logs at Anthropic's rates. That is real, metered-equivalent spend, priced to the cent.
Notional list price
For subscription-metered providers like Codex or the Gemini CLI, per-token math produces a notional figure — what the usage would cost at API list prices, not what you paid. JP labels every such number so you always know which is which.
Common questions
- Why not just show one number?
- Because mixing real spend with list-price estimates is how other trackers mislead. JP keeps them labelled and separate.
